Prostate cancer in Bangalore.

Prostate is a exocrine gland in male reproductive organ  that  produce the seminal fluid which  transports the sperms. Prostate cancer is a disease which begins to grow in the prostate.Prostate cancer is most commonly seen in men of age above 50 or 65 years.

Other causes of prostate cancer are :
  • Hereditary.
  • Overweight.
  • Smoking, unhealthy diet, unnatural lifestyle.
  • Overdose of calcium intake.
  • Previous occurrence of prostate cancer.

Symptoms:
  • Frequent and painful urination.
  • Reduction in urine flow.
  • Irregularities during sexual intercourse.
  • Blood seen in the urine or semen.
  • Aching, discomfort, stiffness in the lower back, pelvis region, etc.
  • Swelling/ inflammation of legs.
  • Aching bones.
Treatments are recommended for each stage according to the health, age, and the severity of the disease.
Different stages of prostate cancer:
Early Stage: In this stage the cancer cells is limited to  lining testicles.
Low Grade stage : In this stage the cancer cells grow more than the testicles.
Cancer cells begin to spread from the lining to the muscular walls of the bladder.
Treatment provided for Low grade cancer stage
  • For older men each stage is watched.
  • For younger men surgery is done for the removal of prostate gland.
  • Radio therapy is recommended for men with symptoms.
  • Hormonal therapy.
  • External beam radiotherapy.
  • Brachytherapy.
  • Cryotherapy.

Moderate High Grade stage: Cancer cells begin to spread from the lining of testicles to the muscular walls of the bladder.
Treatment
Brachytherapy: Radiotherapy is done directly into the prostate gland or using an external machine
If the radiotherapy failed prostate gland is removed. It is called Radical Prostatectomy.
Bilateral Orchidectomy.
Locally Advanced stage Cancer cells spread to nearby blood stream and blood cells.
Treatments :
  • Radiotherapy.
  • Hormonal therapy.
  • Watchful waiting.
  • Surgery.
  • Combination treatment.

Advanced Prostate stage: In this stage the cancer  may or may not have spread to other parts of the body.
Symptoms
  • Extreme fatigue and constant weakness.
  • Sudden weight loss.
  • Broken bones, increased back pain.
  • Kidney failure.
  • Urinary incontinence.
  • Total erectile dysfunction.
Treatments
  • Hormonal therapy.
  • Chemotherapy.
  • Radiotherapy.
  • Controlling symptoms.
  • For the smooth passage of urine Transurethral resection of the prostate is recommended
  • Surgery – not recommended.

If the cancer spreads to other parts of the body it cannot be cured. Treatments for controlling the symptom is done. Sometimes there is a chance of cancer to occur again. In that situation Radical prostatectomy, Bilateral Orchiectomy treatment is preferred.
